Dry Needling, Lasting Relief to Painful Muscles

Myofascial trigger point dry needling (MFTrPDN) is a treatment to restore proper function to abnormally behaving muscles that become “locked”, preventing normal muscle function, which causes restriction of movement and chronic pain.

Many methods of treatment are applied to painful muscles but none are quite as effective, fast acting or long lasting as dry needling.

Muscles can become painful with nodules, also called knots, and tight bands of muscle; the pain can be local or send pain signals to other locations in the body.

These knots develop from overuse, trauma, poor posture, lack of exercise, sleep disturbances, vitamin deficiencies, joint arthritis, or nerves being compressed at the spine and other locations. These painful areas contain biochemicals that cause pain to the local nerves, and decreases oxygen flow (called ischemia), causing further pain resulting in muscle fibers to “lock”.

Dry needling is so effective because it short-circuits the vicious cycle in a direct way that other methods cannot accomplish. This allows the muscle to release to its normal length, improves circulation, reduces swelling, and disperses the pain-causing chemicals, thereby removing their noxious effect on local nerves.

The treatment utilizes very thin sterile needles to achieve its goal. The relief is often rapid and the patient becomes relaxed and tired.

Auriculotherapy is often confused with ear acupuncture but it uses no needles, and instead of "meridians" uses nerve connections. A micro-current stimulator is placed on reflex points on the outside of the ear. These points then send a message to the brain based on the location of the reflex point being treated. Most people feel only a tiny tingling at the ear reflex points during treatment.

Imagine your brain as a computer. Inside this computer is a "map" of the entire body. This map is projected onto the ear through the body’s nervous system. Accessing the points on the map is like using a computer’s keyboard or mouse to gain entrance into the system. With this system we are able to directly treat a number of problems & conditions through the "brain's computer".

Tytron Thermography

The Tytron accurately scans the full spine or upper cervical area in approximately 15 seconds.
How does it all work?

Nervous System
The human body and all of its organs are controlled by the nervous system. These nerves run from the brain, down the spinal column, and innervate various organs throughout the body including the heart, the lungs, and even the skin.

The Skin Each of the nerves leaving the spinal column innervates specific areas of the skin, thus dividing the body into a a patterned form known as dermatomes. There are eight cervical, twelve thoracic, five lumbar, and five sacral dermatomes.

The nervous system uses vasoconstriction and vasodilatation of the capillary bed to help regulate body temperature. Irritations cause the skin's natural temperature symmetry to fall out of balance from the left to right side of the spine.

Thompson Technque

The Thompson Technique is method of adjustment that involves analyzing the length of the legs. This technique uses a ‘drop table’ for adjustment, where a gentle thrust is applied to the joints, which in turn, sets the drop piece into motion and targets the specific joint or tissue. After completing a leg check analysis, your chiropractor will determine the type of misalignment cervical, pelvic, etc,- and then adjusts the legs using a combination of multiple thrusts on various joints. Cold Laser Therapy

Cold Laser Therapy or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a treatment that utilizes specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissue and is thought to help accelerate the healing process. It can be used on patients who suffer from a variety of acute and chronic conditions in order to help eliminate pain, swelling, reduce spasms and increase functionality.

How Cold Lasers Work

Cold lasers are handheld devices used by the clinician and are often the size of a flashlight. The laser is placed directly over the injured area for 30 seconds to several minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated and the dose provided by the cold laser unit.
During this time, the non-thermal photons of light that are emitted from the laser pass through the skins layers (the dermis, epidermis, and the subcutaneous tissue or tissue fat under the skin). This light has the ability to penetrate 2 to 5 centimeters below the skin at 90mw and 830 nm.

Once the light energy passes through the layers of skin and reaches the target area, it is absorbed and interacts with the light sensitive elements in the cell. This process can be compared to photosynthesis in plants - sunlight is absorbed by plants, which is then converted to usable energy so that the plant can grow.

When cells absorb this light energy, it initiates a series of events in the cell that is theorized to eventually result in normalizing damaged or injured tissue, a reduction in pain, inflammation, edema and an overall reduction in healing time by increasing intracellular metabolism.1,2

Research and locate chiropractors in your area that can help alleviate your back and neck pain.

Kinesio Taping

The Kinesio Taping® Method is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting. Latex-free and wearable for days at a time, Kinesio® Tex Tape is safe for populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric, and successfully treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions. The Kinesio® Taping Method is a therapeutic taping technique not only offering your patient the support they are looking for, but also rehabilitating the affected condition as well. By targeting different receptors within the somatosensory system, Kinesio® Tex Tape alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin thus increasing interstitial space and allowing for a decrease in inflammation of the affected areas.
